EWIEWI CommunitiesMembership Benefits

Because of our upcoming  teleseminar, I've been thinking about the power of persuasion.  I am reminded of a book authored by a 2005 EWI LCAM presenter, Laurie Puhn.  The book is called "Instant Persuasion" and is full of ways to use words powerfully in order to persuade others.

My favorite chapter is called "Spread Gossip." That title jumps out at me.  At last, I think, someone understands those late night phone conversations with my girlfriends.  But idle gossip is not what Laurie means.  She writes, "while a negative gossiper destroys trust, a positive gossiper builds trust by showing others that she wants to make people feel good about themselves and she's happy for others when good things happen to them."

An excellent EWI example of a positive gossip is praising EWI and its members.  Being conscious to give accolades to those who have shown you kindness personally and professionally is a great way to continually strengthen your professional network.

People love to be complimented and recognized for good things, so if you know something good about someone, pass it on.  Especially if you hear something positive about a colleague or EWI member, go ahead - GOSSIP!

Don't forget to gossip about EWI.  Talk to others about the things you learn through EWI, about the professional network you have grown through EWI, about the connection with community you feel through EWI.  Tell your executives, your co-workers, and your friends!  Positive gossip about EWI strengths our organization and helps bring new members into EWI.

Use the power of your words and the power of persuasion:  Spread Positive EWI Gossip!
