Reading Rally
- 2006 EWI Members Make Some Literacy Magic
EWI members from across the United States and Canada descended on the Contemporary Hotel in Orlando, Florida for the 59th Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting of Executive Women International. A huge part of this meeting is a literacy project which focuses on the literacy needs of the hosting city’s community. Headed by Corporate Reading Rally Chair, Carolyn Woodmansee (EWI of Spokane), this year’s project was a donation of 3,000 books to the Kids House of Seminole, Inc. and Sunny Side Village. Both Florida organizations reach out to children who are in abusive conditions.
Contributions for this donation came from EWI Chapters and representatives who donated over 1,000 books at the Conference and Scholastic Literacy Partners who donated funds as well as over 2,000 books.
Another generous contribution to the Reading Rally program was made from long-time instructors and mentors of EWI’s Academy of Leadership program, Lori Giovannoni and Kathleen Gage. Giovannoni and Gage donated over $2,700 dollars from proceeds from their latest book. At the time of their donation, Gage encouraged EWI members to make on-the-spot contributions to the Reading Rally program. In five minutes over $1,200 in cash was donated to the Reading Rally program! Now that’s magic!
